Blaze - High School

"We exist to ignite an urgency in students to burn passionately for God and to love others selflessly."

Blaze is actually an acronym that breaks down our purpose for how we direct the youth group.

B stands for befriending others. We provide a caring, safe environment for students to fellowship with peers. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

L stands for learning God's truth. At Blaze, we will learn direct biblical truths, while looking at how they affect a student in today's society. (Psalm 1:1)

A stands for adoring God through worship. This provides a learning platform about the importance of worship while being able to experience it in a peer based group. (Romans 12:1 and Psalm 150)

Z stands for zealous in prayer. We as staff realize our dependence on God for this group, so we model this in our small groups and teaching times by spending time in prayer. (1 Thess. 5:17)

E stands for extending God's kingdom. We hope to reach as many students as possible with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, while teaching and equipping students to do the same. (Matthew 28:18-20)

BLAZE Youth Groupblaze

SEPTEMBER - MAY

Wednesdays:  7:30-9:00pm, Coffeehouse 9-10pm

The youth group meetings run from September to May and meet in the "loft" of Grace Church. These nights are focused on teaching biblical principles, worshiping together as a peer group, and spending time in discussion break-out groups. Of course there are plenty of games, jokes, and laughs! The "Coffeehouse" opens up afterwards for some time of fellowship and fun. During this time the students can have fun with video games, board games, amazing treats and food, or just relax on a couch and talk with friends. This truly is a great time of learning, fun, and fellowship.

Whether you're a new Christian, been a Christian "all your life", or someone who has questions...Blaze is for YOU.

We understand that the high school years are some of the most formulating years in your life. This transition to adulthood comes with many challenges. We at Blaze want to come along side you during this time when you are establishing your own faith and beliefs.

Upper Room

Sunday Mornings:  During the 10:15 Service
The Upper Room runs from September to May and meet in the "loft" of Grace Church. These Sunday morning classes are focused on teaching biblical principles that will help students develop an understanding of the Christian faith. Upper Room is for all students currently in 9th through 12th grade. There are four distinct classes that are age appropriate that promote biblical growth and community.

How to Read the Bible: Freshman

This course is an introduction to the interpretation of the Bible, seeking to  provide a historical perspective and reliable principles with which to study,  interpret, and apply Scripture.  Through this course, the students will learn text structure, how to use study tools and concordances, the history of modern translations, and more. This course is vital to build a foundation for personal study.

Survey of Theology: Sophomores

The course is designed to give a high school student a rounded view of theology, with an emphasis on defending the faith against current beliefs or trends.  Topics include the study of God's revelation, God and his actions, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and knowing God.  The course concludes with each student working through what they had learned, and coming to a theological viewpoint.

Defending Your Faith: Juniors

This course is designed to help students learn to not only understand and communicate their faith to others, but be able to defend that faith in light of criticism. Students will look at twelve major objections to Christianity and will have the opportunity to work out their beliefs in the safety of a classroom setting. This course will conclude with the students participating in a series of debates designed to strengthen their knowledge and confidence when speaking about the Bible, God, Jesus, and other aspects of the Christian faith.

Christian Ethics: Seniors

This course is designed to help students think through difficult ethical issues through a Biblical world view.  Students will look at the different views concerning ethics, and then develop their own in the safety of a classroom setting through debate and class interaction.  This course will conclude with each student taking a time of personal study, where they will learn to prepare and present an ethical topic based on scripture where they must defend their view.
