This week we will be singing a new song together. Entitled “Christ Forever,” this song will provide us with an opportunity to sing of the glory of Christ and our future hope of eternal life with him. Throughout the song we will together remember the past work of Christ on the cross, celebrate the present work of Christ as the reigning King of Kings, and anticipate the future work of Christ as the Restorer and Perfecter of all creation. It was adapted from a selection from The Valley of Vision called “Heaven Desired,” in which the writer expresses deep longing and hopeful expectation for the culmination of God’s work in restoring and perfecting his soul. We too, as we enter into a new sermon series dedicated to prayer, should pray (and sing) with longing and expectation: we long for the world and our lives to be made new and expect with assurance that God will one day ultimately complete the work He has begun in our lives.

Christ Forever

© 2009 David Leonard & Josh Poore

While we were sinners

Hopeless and broken still

He came to save us

Died on the cross for our sins

But He rose again

Now we are waiting

Looking to Heaven still

Jesus is reigning

Soon to return again

This world has nothing for me

I’m coming home

Hallelujah, let the nations sing

Jesus Christ is King

Lord of Heaven

Hallelujah, where all joys increase

Sin and sorrow cease

Christ forever

With perfect vision

Beauty is greater still

From perfect voices

Melodies sweeter still

My soul will find completion

When I come home

Holy, holy

Holy is the Lord, God Almighty

Holy, holy

Holy is the Lord, God Almighty
