Our History

Grace Church has a long history in Racine that started with 17 German-speaking members on December 5th, 1854. Under the original name “First German Baptist Church” met in homes for two years until they were able to purchase a small chapel on Villa Street. Over the course of the next 170 years, the church has grown, changed locations, and adjusted the church name.

While the location and name has changed, the purpose of Grace Church has been consistent. The aim of the church from the early 1900s was “To lead every person to accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.” Today, our mission is “To Know Christ and Make Christ Known,” which is right in line with the goals of those early believers who established this local church.

Thank you Lord, for this rich legacy you have provided for the people of Grace Church. We look forward to the adventure you have planned for Grace Church in the future!
